This will impact all manners of travel both in, and out, of Canada, including leisure and business travel. Impacts, that Canadian investor Sam Znaimer faced recently when he was denied entry into the USA. Stakeholders in the travel industry, from airlines to corporate travel managers, need to communicate these changes to end-users, like Sam Znaimer, and in a manner that is easy to understand and put into practice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gmail_default\"><u>What we do know:<\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>October 17th<\/strong> sees the Cannabis Act into effect.<\/li>\n<li>That taking <strong>cannabis or cannabis-based products INTO Canada remains illegal<\/strong> and could result in serious criminal penalties and records.<\/li>\n<li>That taking\u00a0<strong>cannabis or cannabis-based products<\/strong><strong>\u00a0OUTSIDE of Canada\u2019s international borders remains illegal<\/strong> and could result in serious criminal penalties and lifetime records.<\/li>\n<li>That <strong>possession of cannabis remains illegal under U.S. federal laws<\/strong> in any form and any quantity.<\/li>\n<li>That <strong>previous use of cannabis, or any substance prohibited by U.S. federal laws<\/strong>, could deny entry at any border point.<\/li>\n<li>That <strong>involvement in the legal cannabis industry in Canada could also deny entry at any US border point.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"gmail_default\"><u>What we don&#8217;t know:<\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"gmail_default\">How this will <strong>impact entrance to other countries,<\/strong>\u00a0not including the USA, and especially those with harsher policies on drug\/substance use.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"gmail_default\">Does <strong>working, or investing in the Cannabis sector leave a shared internationally accessible record<\/strong> for all current and\/or future governments to access?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><u>What we can assume:<\/u><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"gmail_default\"><strong>Working, or investing in the Cannabis sector could leave a shared international record<\/strong> for all current or future governments to access?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"gmail_default\">Working or investing in the Cannabis sector <strong>may have the potential to impact one&#8217;s current and future ability to travel<\/strong> internationally.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><u>Where we go from here:<\/u><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"gmail_default\">We need to communicate these changes to Canadian employees, directors, investors that represent any business interest outside of Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>When creating business policy, one could certainly take a\u00a0<span class=\"gmail_default\">laissez-faire\u00a0<\/span>page out of Las Vegas&#8217; &#8216;What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas&#8217;\u00a0<span class=\"gmail_default\">brand\u00a0<\/span>playbook, or one<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0could\u00a0<\/span>take a more measured\u00a0approach and recommend<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>limiting the\u00a0exposure<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0to the substance,<\/span>\u00a0citing the<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0known, unknown and assumed<\/span>\u00a0positions both<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0in and\u00a0<\/span>outside the nation&#8217;s borders.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"gmail_default\">Some additional resources:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www3.gbta.org\/e\/5572\/nabis-and-international-travel\/5yq1cb\/1969322713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Government of Canada\u2019s website for further information<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www3.gbta.org\/e\/5572\/border-security-overview\/5yq1cg\/1969322713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Homeland Security<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www3.gbta.org\/e\/5572\/-citizens-canada-mexico-travel\/5yq1cj\/1969322713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On October 17th, 2018, Bill C-45, more commonly known as the Cannabis Act, will see\u00a0the legal consumption of personal and medicinal marijuana in Canada enter into effect.
